Fern Marshall Bradley

Calling Community, Contra, and Square Dances for all Ages

Fern Marshall Bradley has been part of the mid-Atlantic and New England dance scene for more than 25 years, since she first learned to contra dance in Princeton and Lambertville, New Jersey. Fern began calling contra dances in 2000 after attending dance calling workshops with callers Greg Frock of Baltimore and John Krumm of southeast Pennsylvania. Fern is known for her clear teaching style and her love of introducing new dancers to contra dancing. Fern also enjoys calling community and family dances, blending a variety of folk traditions at events designed for people of all ages to dance together.

After moving north to the Hudson Valley of New York in 2005, Fern took her calling skills to the next level, attending a week-long square dance callers’ workshop sponsored by the Country Dance and Song Society. She has also attended Pourparler, a weekend intensive conference for dance educators and community dance leaders. Fern’s calling credits include:

Fern is the editor of the Dance Flurry News. She has served as President of the Valley Contra Dance Society and has played piano and pennywhistle in Soup for the Soles, the house band of the Valley Contra Dance Society. She has also played in the Rum & Onions orchestra in Princeton, New Jersey.
